For many people, training for a triathlon represents a year-long commitment. On the day of the big event, you can take specific steps to make sure you put that training to good use.
Prior to the swimming portion, you should complete a warm-up to get your body ready. If you don’t want to swim at the front of the pack, hang back and let the masses pull ahead while you find your groove. Try to draft off the swimmer in front of you, if you can, to conserve energy. And remember to keep breathing.
When it comes to the cycling portion, you should obtain a steady amount of calories before starting out in order to stay hydrated. Don’t push yourself too hard while biking in order to save your energy for the run.
As with swimming and cycling, it is very important to pace yourself during the running portion. Don’t give up, even though your body may start to ache. Keep drinking water, and visualize your favorite place, person, or memory in order to motivate you to finish the mile at hand.
