    About David C. Burke

    Investment Manager and Lecturer

    David C. Burke is an investment management professional with more than two decades of experience in private equity and venture capital. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served on multiple corporate and advisory boards, and presently maintains positions on the board of directors of The Miller Center at the University of Virginia (UVA), Kuvare Insurance Holdings, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. David Colin Burke is also a lecturer at UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

    Mr. Burke is most well-known as the founder of Makena Capital Management, now considered one of the world's preeminent investment management firms, handling more than $20 billion in assets, with 18 partners and offices in California, New York, and London. After founding the firm in 2005, he served as the CEO, managing director, and as a member of Makena’s board of directors. Since 2004, he has been the managing director of the family investment office Tuolumne Capital, LP.

    Prior to founding Makena Capital Management, Mr. Burke was managing director at the Stanford Management Company and The Investment Fund for Foundations. He also served one year as vice president of business development and general counsel at the French company iMediation. Earlier, he was an associate attorney at the law firms Linklaters in London and McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, and Enersen in San Francisco. He earned a master's degree in international relations, a juris doctor, and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Virginia.
